TACTICAL MAPPING SYSTEM
From Firefighting to Hostage rescue.
A team tracking and mapping system that uses cutting edge sensors to track individual operators and builds a composite map that puts Commanders back in control.
VISION
Designed For
Tactical Commanders.
Puts the commander back in control of urban operations by giving them a real time picture of where all the operators are and a map of where they have been.
Designed by operators, for operators. The 3D printed prototype weighs less than 1 Kg and communicates wirelessly.
Edge Computing to track each individual operator whilst building a collective view for the Commander in real time.
Capable of integrating any sensor with a digital output provided the sensor can be miniaturized and ruggedized.
Light enough to mount on drones or other unmanned vehicles. Feed can be securely relayed to Gold Command.
Designed to put “Commander’s back in the fight” of urban operations including CQB, Hostage Rescue and Fire Fighting.
Operator mounted system that builds a secure tactical network.
Uses multiple sensors to build a rich tactical picture with a plenty of opportunity for additional sensor types.
Fully patented and built in conjunction with Liverpool John Moores University.

Disruptive
Military Technology.
MULTIPLE TEAMS
Supports multi point entry and helps to coordinate team link up or prevent Friendly Fire incidents.
INDIVIDUAL TRACKING
Tracks each individual operator and so supports an unparalleled AAR (After Action Review).
BIG
PICTURE
Can be used to identify ‘man down’ location and assist operations in smoke filled rooms. Suitable for Fire Service and does not use GPS.
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
Maps building automatically detecting stairs, doors and can ‘learn’ objects using AI. Does not rely on prior knowledge of the building layout.

How It Works?

Guardian is a system that links operators in a high threat environment into a single interconnected network so everyone knows where everyone is at anytime. The system is made up from four elements.
THE SENSORS AND COMPUTING
Multi Sensors
Edge Computing.
-
Guardian can integrate any sensors that produce a digital output although one of our key design principles is to consider operator comfort at all times so large, heavy sensors have not been trailed.
-
The system has currently been built up using LIDAR, RADAR, Depth Camera and an Inertia Movement Unit and we have begun testing Sonar and Thermal Imagery.
-
The operator mounted kit is actually a very practical example of edge computing with each unit working independently and capturing mapping and location data for each operator.

The Network.
-
Each operator connects wirelessly to all the other operators to build up a secure central network.
-
Guardian is currently trailing the optimum memory for operators to continue mapping whilst ‘outside’ the central network with a synchronisation function when the operator re-joins the network.
The Central A.I. Decision Engine (C.A.I.D.E).
-
Guardian is made up of multiple operators moving through an unknown environment with multiple sensor types building up a very rich data picture.
-
At the heart of Guardian is a Central AI Decision engine that takes that rich and complex data picture and build up a Composite Operating Picture.
-
Different sensors have different outputs and so C.A.I.D.E analyses the conflicts between sensor output to build an even more detailed view of the environment and to ‘see’ things that operators sometimes cannot.

THE COMMANDERS VIEW
By Operators
For Operators.
-
One of our key design principles is to provide a rich tactical picture without overcommunicating and risking Commander sensory overload.
-
The key balance is to show just enough tactically useful information in real time so that the Commander can take command of the environment without actually being in the building.
WHO ARE WE?
A Three-way Partnership.
Guardian was built between CAL International engineering, Liverpool John Moore's University and the Innovate UK Knowledge Transfer Partnership.
